Yare, Yare Daze

Been a while since I last updated on Jotaro. I stopped for a while since one of his most defining features are is his longcoat. And for a while I was stumped until a good friend of mine gave me some foam sheets to experiment with.

These same sheets he had used earlier for his own project, SHF Minami Kotaro

Anyhoo I think the coat works for now. like with a lot of stuff it's still a bit rough, and I'll go back to fixing it once everything else is resolved, like the pants, and sleeves as well as the belt... And a little more cleaning on the face.



I also started work on Star platinum, again very rough start.

I intend to have him with two heads, an ORAORAORA face and a more stoic face similar to Jotaro's

Currently this project is proving to be fun, and I'm in no real rush to finish these but I do hope it fares better than the Joe Shimamura custom I've yet to finish.

Okay, so here's what I've been working on this week, and it's sorta long overdue (but in part I'm glad it was).

I'm making Jotaro and Star Platinum in Microman scale using some Kinnikuman bodies as base figures.

It has been pretty okay for the meantime but I just can't get the vibe without his coat. But a friend of mine has suggested using "colored foam sheets" bought from the bookstore. I shall look into it next week but I feel it might need some miniature tailoring skills I don't have (;n;)

Really had fun working on the face, sculpted from scratch. I think I'm slowly getting better at this sort of thing. 

I bought 2 materialforce figures today and I have no Idea what to do with them. I kinda want to make customs but with how hard it is to come across blanks I think I'll save em for a rainy day. 

Double (Rei)nbow, All The Way!

The first day of the Xmas Toyfair was dismal for me, nothing really new and interesting to take home, ended up buying another microman Rei Ayanami and a Blue Swat toy (pretty neat).

Funny story though, (and I just can't let this go because it's so out of the ordinary to me) someone used my name to obtain an item I've been wanting to get, actually an extra of the Rei and Asuka plugsuit set that I wanted to buy as a gift to a friend.

Well, my only consolation would be that I already got it for myself at a much more affordable price, but it boggles the mind how someone namedropped me to get a toy. Ah well, I'll look for something else for my friend when my family goes on vacation in Hong Kong this weekend (excited!).


The only other cool thing I bought from toyfair was this:

It's a neat little pod/car for a character in Blue Swat named "Gold Platinum". the set even comes with a simple figure of GP and his gun, but I'm using the pod itself for my Micromen.

Yay?

Man, I was hoping to get the Microforce Command Microman this month but the shop I ordered from gave me the wrong figure. Was kinda disappointed at first, no actually frustrated that they mixed it up, but then again it's not like I wasn't going to get this figure at some point. I just wanted to get more micromen because i have a lot of microladies already. 

In-hand she's not bad, actually she's tons of fun. the plastic feels solid and won't break with a bad glance, the weapons and gear all fit and store snugly on her person, and it's a good choice of weapons too (bazooka, assault rifle and combat knife) . I especially like details like how she can switch cartridges on her assault rifle and store them. Probably the only thing missing would be a pistol.

Went ahead and painted her face like I do with all my microforce figures, and I'm surprised by how pretty the face is underneath when I painted it, all that chrome kinda obscured it but now it's out in the open, and it's a very nice sculpt to me. 

New heads!

New head recasts from the shop arrived today, as well as a set of parts for another figure. I'll see about building one over the next few days. In the meantime I tested out some of the new heads:

Definitely pretty good fits, I kinda want to paint these in my usual style of metallic hair and flesh faces, but probably when these begin rolling out they'll either be painted full metal or left in their plain cast color

Despite my compulsion to have all my microforce figures sporting non-chrome but fleshy heads, I kinda want to retain the ghost white color of the resin. It really appeals to me.

The recast Beta Midget heads look pretty boss as well on microforce bodies, I think even handsomer than the actual microforce male heads.


Anyway, probably the only thing missing now are casts of the male bodytypes.

and of course, custom accessories. 

Rides

Let's talk about vehicles since I bought a few recently,

First up is this Honda Hornet bike. It's scaled at 1:18 and made by a company named Welly. Other than that I know nothing about it, what I do know is that there are a lot of welly motorcycles at the mall, I actually bought another one but probably won't open it until I have the rider I want on it in-hand.

Welly has a lot of brands in their line, aside from Honda there's Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki, Aprilla (another one I want) and many others all of which feature very clean decos, diecast parts, and amazingly clean finishes

Little details on the bike are wonderfully chromed and painted, giving this vehicle a lot of eye-candy

Aside from the stellar pearlescent paintjob what also catches my eye are the simple "honda" tampographs and the odometer. Really adds a lot of realism to this tiny model.

The goldish yellow color is really beautiful and complements the black and silver detailing.

The quality and simple colors really appeals to me and I forsee myself buying more of these Welly motorcycles. If only they came in more colors that complemented my Micromen though.

I'd really love to own a Kawasaki Ninja that was colored purple for my microforce ninja microman. 

...Of course the bike wasn't the only one I bought. 

BEEP BEEEEEP

This is a 1/20 scaled pull-back Diecast golf cart from some no-name company, and obviously I bought it for hilarity.

It hardly fits the already small Micromen, but it's a snug fit for microsisters

But everytime I look at one of the micromen riding on it, I enjoy it all the better.

Due to the really small space alloted for the driver, nothing short of multiple points of articulation will get any 1:18 figure in there, which is what makes it perfect for Microman figures, since they're probably the only ones with enough articulation to contort inside.

that's a dirty desk!

New project! No the head wasn't sculpted by me, I tried using a gashapon head for this one, though I gotta admit the look grows on me. But still I'm on the hunt for a tad smaller headsculpt for it. 

I also went router crazy on the upper torso and arms, the stock smooth look just didn't cut it for me and I like this look better. 

I've also been looking for a couple of new heads for the clear bodies I have, and so far these are the ones I've chosen:

overall reception on the 4 heads was good, though I may add a bit more and tweak the current ones to my liking. A lot of things are in the works as this year closes, and it's still only November. I can't wait for 2013
