<span style="text-align: start;">So sorry for the lack of updates, but I decided to pop in to make a quick follow-along project. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X1HZIhdcPSY/VCAvCIsUaMI/AAAAAAAAHdE/DY1LGV1wZIE/s1600/IMG_5842.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-X1HZIhdcPSY/VCAvCIsUaMI/AAAAAAAAHdE/DY1LGV1wZIE/s1600/IMG_5842.JPG" height="222" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
This Torohachi kit was originally from the Bandai Summer Customize Campaign Parts (set F). I really just wanted this petite MS and not the weapons it came with so I'm selling those off later.<br /><br />Anyway...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qfxaGTBLifY/VCAv1mOSomI/AAAAAAAAHdM/qfktSzE8SFc/s1600/IMG_5822.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qfxaGTBLifY/VCAv1mOSomI/AAAAAAAAHdM/qfktSzE8SFc/s1600/IMG_5822.JPG" height="194" width="320" /></a><br /><br />I started by removing excess plastic under its arms with a pin vise, so that most of the arm would be free-hanging. I didn't fill the gaps behind the propellant tank/ thrusters however since I wanted to finish this paintjob quickly. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zCkhFIAgEYk/VCAv1ixMC8I/AAAAAAAAHdY/WPQYp_zJL7U/s1600/IMG_5827.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zCkhFIAgEYk/VCAv1ixMC8I/AAAAAAAAHdY/WPQYp_zJL7U/s1600/IMG_5827.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a><br /><br />After removing the seams on the dome I applied some DS 3000 Gray Primer to smoothen it out. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E40ZWIGXMDc/VCAv186Fl7I/AAAAAAAAHdQ/nZK5DtcDCtQ/s1600/IMG_5829.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E40ZWIGXMDc/VCAv186Fl7I/AAAAAAAAHdQ/nZK5DtcDCtQ/s1600/IMG_5829.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br /><br />I didn't have any construction yellow so I mixed one up with white, dark/sand yellow, and a bit of orange.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sci5qAl6osM/VCAv2zeKnWI/AAAAAAAAHdc/BJp3aiU3YC4/s1600/IMG_5830.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Sci5qAl6osM/VCAv2zeKnWI/AAAAAAAAHdc/BJp3aiU3YC4/s1600/IMG_5830.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a><br /><br />two to three coats later it's fully colored in yellow.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QDYa1mEjxuM/VCAv3EllZQI/AAAAAAAAHdo/Ytxb85W7XkY/s1600/IMG_5831.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QDYa1mEjxuM/VCAv3EllZQI/AAAAAAAAHdo/Ytxb85W7XkY/s1600/IMG_5831.JPG" height="320" width="248" /></a><br /><br />I gave the entire thing a gloss coat to protect it from the enamel washes later on. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f8WFxkpzuWY/VCAv3j9LV0I/AAAAAAAAHds/2mqwfVIcEgA/s1600/IMG_5833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f8WFxkpzuWY/VCAv3j9LV0I/AAAAAAAAHds/2mqwfVIcEgA/s1600/IMG_5833.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br /><br />It was at this point that I decided to get the dome out of the way first so I can just paint the details later. I used Vallejo Model color dark blue, Model Air White, and Model Air Dark Grey-Blue for this, thinned down with pledge wipe and shine, and used 5/0 and 00 brushes to apply them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0ykclp5lAag/VCAv4FtOF0I/AAAAAAAAHd0/tOPH4WKdcKM/s1600/IMG_5834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0ykclp5lAag/VCAv4FtOF0I/AAAAAAAAHd0/tOPH4WKdcKM/s1600/IMG_5834.JPG" height="304" width="320" /></a><br /><br />Started painting the dome with a mix of the blue-grey and dark blue...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z9Ub6KsgiP0/VCAv4vvLQ9I/AAAAAAAAHd4/qNUVYv_AVLM/s1600/IMG_5835.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z9Ub6KsgiP0/VCAv4vvLQ9I/AAAAAAAAHd4/qNUVYv_AVLM/s1600/IMG_5835.JPG" height="320" width="275" /></a><br /><br />..gradually adding more dark blue to the second coat...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
...then adding a bit of white to the dark blue...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rBm1imz7vws/VCAv5VK5qFI/AAAAAAAAHeI/ovEXaHGGqlI/s1600/IMG_5837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rBm1imz7vws/VCAv5VK5qFI/AAAAAAAAHeI/ovEXaHGGqlI/s1600/IMG_5837.JPG" height="320" width="296" /></a><br /><br />...and increasing the lightness of the dark blue by adding white, until it was a really pale sky blue...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o84z3v45glw/VCAv6LpNGTI/AAAAAAAAHeQ/bUrhuxbpIRA/s1600/IMG_5838.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-o84z3v45glw/VCAv6LpNGTI/AAAAAAAAHeQ/bUrhuxbpIRA/s1600/IMG_5838.JPG" height="317" width="320" /></a><br /><br />... Then finishing with a mix that was almost white with a hint of blue in it to blend. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bhZTsm-24A8/VCAv6sgo8_I/AAAAAAAAHeU/kqcwHDw3PDI/s1600/IMG_5840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bhZTsm-24A8/VCAv6sgo8_I/AAAAAAAAHeU/kqcwHDw3PDI/s1600/IMG_5840.JPG" height="320" width="316" /></a><br /><br />I covered this up with clear gloss then proceeded to paint the other details. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FPaPeP8Y-O4/VCAv6y2a1qI/AAAAAAAAHeY/zABOBaKPENA/s1600/IMG_5841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FPaPeP8Y-O4/VCAv6y2a1qI/AAAAAAAAHeY/zABOBaKPENA/s1600/IMG_5841.JPG" height="184" width="320" /></a><br /><br />Lastly, I gave the Torohachi a dark-brown panel wash and flat coat, and several more coats of gloss to the dome (after the first layer dried overnight)</div>

I recently made a Facebook page to document my work since I'm more active there, nowadays. I've only done 3 pictures of the kit so far, though I think these are enough to get a feel for the model. Well, that and I think working on this kit wore me out to the point that I'm not motivated enough to snap a lot of pics.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I want to make more of these things.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I recently purchased some 2" figures of Godzilla made my NECA/WizKids. These things are tiny but unbelievably well-sculpted for their size, and the classic Gojis are a tad lacking in the paint department for it to really show. <br />
<br />
So I decided to work on these for the past weekend, by cleaning up the mold lines a bit and giving them a repaint but I found myself planning mini-display dioramas for them as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j9VQD_opC6k/U7S7sLaykfI/AAAAAAAAHXs/inXt4QrHPKg/s1600/IMG_4471.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j9VQD_opC6k/U7S7sLaykfI/AAAAAAAAHXs/inXt4QrHPKg/s1600/IMG_4471.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's basically one of those P88 / 100 yen display cases for gashapon figures they sell at japanese discount stores, with groundwork made of styrofoam and layers of epoxy putty to make the hills. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yk-RrB2Ysbo/U7S7tMSwekI/AAAAAAAAHX0/djzR2wzAIec/s1600/IMG_4477-horz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Yk-RrB2Ysbo/U7S7tMSwekI/AAAAAAAAHX0/djzR2wzAIec/s1600/IMG_4477-horz.jpg" height="316" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The figures itself went through roughtly three stages of painting. I kinda worked it out on the 6" vinyl figure and tried applying the same concept. I started with a green instead of going asphalt gray, then darkened it with layers of enamel wash, then a second coat on selected areas with a darker green.<br />
<br />
I think the final painted result somewhat matches the usual gray of the design anyway so I'm happy with it, and all that was left was painting the details. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b_dXZKMcVgs/U7S8JE72AuI/AAAAAAAAHYk/0Y6BCzzefdo/s1600/IMG_4480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-b_dXZKMcVgs/U7S8JE72AuI/AAAAAAAAHYk/0Y6BCzzefdo/s1600/IMG_4480.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I applied primer to the base afterwards, and was kind of glad it looked like a natural-ish hill.<br />
<br />
All that was painting the groundwork and adding flock for vegetation. I clumped up layers together with glue to make "trees". Which I think fit the scale (despite the lack of it)<br />
<br />
The grass I used was too bright green, perfect for 1/144 or larger so I still had to dull down parts of the vegetation with faded earth-green to make variation in the landscape.<br />
<br />
Anyway, here's the completed scene below:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ewVQgFhv0Lk/U7S701IoA3I/AAAAAAAAHYA/6r5Sx_eAoT0/s1600/IMG_4493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ewVQgFhv0Lk/U7S701IoA3I/AAAAAAAAHYA/6r5Sx_eAoT0/s1600/IMG_4493.JPG" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLtw7e_5WYQ/U7S76bkx2eI/AAAAAAAAHYQ/1wE-mv_PZbg/s1600/IMG_4497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLtw7e_5WYQ/U7S76bkx2eI/AAAAAAAAHYQ/1wE-mv_PZbg/s1600/IMG_4497.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vG7phulz4-E/U7S76n7D5jI/AAAAAAAAHYU/93y3L50Cck4/s1600/IMG_4498.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vG7phulz4-E/U7S76n7D5jI/AAAAAAAAHYU/93y3L50Cck4/s1600/IMG_4498.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sT3cuXFl-vA/U7S7__D3PjI/AAAAAAAAHYc/JgWVOBpsmc0/s1600/IMG_4499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sT3cuXFl-vA/U7S7__D3PjI/AAAAAAAAHYc/JgWVOBpsmc0/s1600/IMG_4499.JPG" height="400" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
And here it is with the acrylic display case added. The atomic breath accessory is removable by the way, allowing me to present 1954 Goji rising from a hill or just seconds from searing it with atomic breath.<br />
<br />
I like these figures and it's pretty likely I'll make more dioramas in the same format when I buy the display cases and the actual figures.<br />

And working on an HGUC Full Armor Gundam (the one I really like, not the one I made that had bullshit backpack powers.)<br />

So... yeah, blog is still alive, I'm still alive.<br />
<br />
OH! I also got a new job (which is still teaching but at a university nearer where I live. Sad part is I won't get my salary for the first three months. But at least I get a spiffy work table.<br />

<br />
The 2014 Gundam Model Kit Contest concluded today, and I'm happy to have taken home something for my efforts.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AeFcoIPT4e4/U3jifJIXuVI/AAAAAAAAHVU/twKKOvzA4uo/s1600/IMG_4097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AeFcoIPT4e4/U3jifJIXuVI/AAAAAAAAHVU/twKKOvzA4uo/s1600/IMG_4097.JPG" height="640" width="443" /></a><br />
<br />
Ah, well. Didn't break into the top three this time around, although I still placed within the top 8 (came in at 5th place). Funnily, I had entered a Victory Gundam as an entry and won its upgrade, the Victory Two. Just thinking about that made me smile.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I had a fun time today, Got to watch the last episode of Gundam Unicorn with new friends that I met on the internet, passed on some of my gunpla books to someone who I think will benefit from it (although the MOOK book, I might want to have back at some point lol). Got to catch up with some older hobby friends, got some good advice for future contest entries<br />
and overall had a nice Sunday out, and got something back for my hard work.<br />
<br />
<br />
It complements my last Saturday out spent with my old friends, and had some laughs that were sorely missed, and apparently I forgot to write about (lol sorry guys)<br />
<br />
I'll get to work on doing a full Gallery of my entries this year sometime in the week, and there was another project I was working on during the week before the awarding as well, for a group build, but I think I'l going to end up editing it a bit and taking new pictures before I post it up.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-23388858917309913842014-05-07T20:47:00.001+08:002014-05-08T00:03:17.939+08:00All Set Just finished my entries today, with some days to spare too. I spent yesterday picking up the washes I needed to complete the builds, at my friend and fellow hobbyist Daryl's house. Ended up hanging around and waiting for other builders, the very talented Dennis Cruz and DS paints co-owner and modeler Chester Uy. Notable stuff I learned while there was the application of the oil dot filter and a brush on filter, both of which I am pretty eager to try on future works (like my MG Gundam Ver.Ka).<br />
<br />
Dennis also picked up some washes for his entry, and Chester meanwhile was working on his entry for our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/224026507803292/">Noob Group Build</a> on the way home (around 10 in the evening) we ran into Voltaire Gaviola who was also going to get paint for finishing his own entry for GMKC 2014. I immediately went to work on mine, completing the panel wash for my V-gundam entry. Earlier this morning, I finished up on the panel wash for my Thunderbolt Full-Armor, which went on rather nicely. I'll upload full galleries after GMKC concludes, but for now, here's some black and white pics.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZKBVvRJcjw/U2onrOnE6aI/AAAAAAAAHU8/-uzIgWqbHhI/s1600/IMG_3957BW.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ZKBVvRJcjw/U2onrOnE6aI/AAAAAAAAHU8/-uzIgWqbHhI/s1600/IMG_3957BW.JPG" height="320" width="273" /></a><br />

<br />
I tried keeping both of these clean, in contrast to my last two contest pieces which were weathered. I think it turned out pretty okay. I am especially satisfied with the camo attempt with the V-gundam, and as for the Thunderbolt? Eh, I'm glad it's done at least (lol). Hopefully I can get some input on my models after the contest to see what I can improve with my builds.<br />
<br />
<br />
Anyway, now that these are done, I can move on with the group build thing I have with ED and Justinius Builds, as my relaxation work. Looking forward to finally painting the HGUC Alex I had set aside for a while now.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-28247703992741305082014-04-28T02:26:00.003+08:002014-04-28T02:26:59.269+08:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I don't think I've ever done a heavy type unit like this before and I kinda doubt I'll ever attempt to do so again (...until they make either the Xi Gundam or the Gustav Karl).<br />

<br />
crap, I just got home a while ago after picking up my entries from Mechapinoy's SaD (Shine and Dirt) Invitational contest.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Happy to announce that I brought home second place, and after seeing the first place winner I am kinda in awe of the piece (it was a 1/144 EX Model Magella tank, and it was a fantastic looking piece).<br /><br /><br />Happily my efforts in learning weathering paid off, and I'm definitely loving it more now (expect more dusty stuff from now on lol). I also got over my initial hesitation in joining competitions, and after finding out who judged our work... I am still in a state of "wow".<br /><br />I won an SD Quanta from the contest, as well as some free paint, and of course, the uber sweet trophy. I'll try harder next time and hope my luck keeps on going from this point on.<br /><br />Thanks to Mehcapinoy, JMN's Hobby, Daryl Sprays, and AMMO by Mig Jimenez.<br /><br />Special thanks to my teacher, Daryl Ayo for the tips and tricks, and my friends in the hobby for the constant motivation.<br /><br />woo-hoo! (EDIT-12:32AM) Seems like Gundam Kits Collection also <a href="http://www.gundamkitscollection.com/2014/03/hguc-1144-rgm-79-gm-custom-build.html">decided to feature my Jack the Halloween GM</a><br />

All I can say? Really BIG thank you for validating my miniscule efforts in working at this hobby. :)))<br />

<br />
The Sniper Kai has been getting some attention, it got featured on <a href="http://www.gunjap.net/site/?p=163393">GunJap</a> (by request, although amusingly Gunjap found the pics I posted on modelers-g before checking their email) and on <a href="http://www.gundamkitscollection.com/2014/03/hguc-1144-gm-sniper-ii-kai-custom-build.html#.UzmHM6iSySo">Gundam Kits Collection</a> (A day after gunjap, and quite a surprise to me).<br />
<br />
Didn't quite think the Kai would get such a warm response, but this does motivate me to push more in my work, there's definitely a spark here for me to work with.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Meanwhile I'm also venturing back into micro plamo with this thing, The Wappa Recon Vehicle from MS IGLOO/Mobile Suit Gundam</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VT-2wmx3vX0/UzmURzAwgXI/AAAAAAAAHT8/s80qsANcgdQ/s1600/IMG_3341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VT-2wmx3vX0/UzmURzAwgXI/AAAAAAAAHT8/s80qsANcgdQ/s1600/IMG_3341.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fun little freebie and was definitely refreshing to squeeze into my work schedule.<br />
<br />
Thinking about it now I've amassed a few odds and ends in this scale (1/144), from sci-fi vehicles to airplanes, tanks, cars, and figures, that I think this requires a separate post in itself, I feel it would be great to catalogue stuff that I've come across in this scale, and collected due to either the scarcity of it or its potential for a diorama piece (something I'm planning in the long run. who knows, maybe this summer!).Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-90492258990852415802014-03-28T23:17:00.000+08:002014-03-28T23:17:24.968+08:00Friday Night Mods! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Continuing with the modifications that need to be done on the Asshimar kit, I've decided to address a few of the most crucial- loose fitting parts.</div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTjX_i7efOo/UzWN274QMAI/AAAAAAAAHSE/CJjQ97knXoY/s1600/IMG_3211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTjX_i7efOo/UzWN274QMAI/AAAAAAAAHSE/CJjQ97knXoY/s1600/IMG_3211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTjX_i7efOo/UzWN274QMAI/AAAAAAAAHSE/CJjQ97knXoY/s1600/IMG_3211.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BTjX_i7efOo/UzWN274QMAI/AAAAAAAAHSE/CJjQ97knXoY/s1600/IMG_3211.JPG" imageanchor="1">
</a><br />
<br />
okay, since this kit had to conform with a standard set of polycaps and still needed to do a full transformation, a lot of the non-essential moving joints on this kit are done via plastic-on-plastic friction between parts. Now over time this will grind down the joint with every repositioning one may do, as evidenced by plastic dust accumulating in the socket (this was before bandai learned to use glossier plastics for these sorts of joints). So this particular entry shows some methods I tried to address this issue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
First of all, let's tackle the most obvious; the shoulder pads. the way these things are designed, with transformation in mind, the pegs are a bit smaller (3mm) and can wear down much easier every time you move them around, the steps I took included:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zRWlZmxpXIA/UzWN30OkCVI/AAAAAAAAHSI/G1dgWB8N8xI/s1600/IMG_3212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zRWlZmxpXIA/UzWN30OkCVI/AAAAAAAAHSI/G1dgWB8N8xI/s1600/IMG_3212.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br /><br />Removing the original joint with my sprue cutters.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fd2VqMBv4oM/UzWN5aJZUBI/AAAAAAAAHSU/69ffcez8L1c/s1600/IMG_3213.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fd2VqMBv4oM/UzWN5aJZUBI/AAAAAAAAHSU/69ffcez8L1c/s1600/IMG_3213.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br /><br />Next, I smoothed the cuts out with a hobby knife and used a pushpin to mark the center of each peg I intend to revise.<br /><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TaslkMZdTcw/UzWN86RglkI/AAAAAAAAHSc/Mi0f1HULNLE/s1600/IMG_3214.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TaslkMZdTcw/UzWN86RglkI/AAAAAAAAHSc/Mi0f1HULNLE/s1600/IMG_3214.JPG" height="252" width="320" /></a><br /><br />I took my mini-drill and went at it, progressing from 1mm to 3mm holes on each side, to accomodate the new pegs.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0DGq-Cz7u3E/UzWN9iZLQbI/AAAAAAAAHSk/tqcGqiJMoR4/s1600/IMG_3215.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0DGq-Cz7u3E/UzWN9iZLQbI/AAAAAAAAHSk/tqcGqiJMoR4/s1600/IMG_3215.JPG" height="229" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now the pegs, I took from the runners of the polycap sets I had on hand, taking care to choose the ones that were slightly above 3mm to ensure a nice tight fit.<br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7IFDIOUCeg/UzWN_GAtbMI/AAAAAAAAHSs/viClWa3cHvU/s1600/IMG_3216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R7IFDIOUCeg/UzWN_GAtbMI/AAAAAAAAHSs/viClWa3cHvU/s1600/IMG_3216.JPG" height="230" width="320" /></a><br /><br />After installing the new pegs and cutting them to length, I secured them in place using superglue. I opted to use the polycap runners as pegs because they would ensure a snug fit while at the same time wouldn't succumb to grinding itself into dust, rather it's tight but has a good amount of give to hold the shoulder pad in place regardless of whatever position it's in.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u8kgRiC_TFc/UzWOKvRs6eI/AAAAAAAAHS0/iJadf29r0pk/s1600/IMG_3217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-u8kgRiC_TFc/UzWOKvRs6eI/AAAAAAAAHS0/iJadf29r0pk/s1600/IMG_3217.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a><br /><br />Now, after repeating the process on the other arm, I now have shoulderpads that will hold no matter how many times I move and adjust or transform them.<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EJuhovIs7Hs/UzWOKuUt_QI/AAAAAAAAHS4/3kVplaXth4A/s1600/IMG_3218.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EJuhovIs7Hs/UzWOKuUt_QI/AAAAAAAAHS4/3kVplaXth4A/s1600/IMG_3218.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wanting to resolve the same issue on the knees, I repeated the process but opted to use more rigid 3mm clear plastic beams (flexible type) they have the same amount of give as the polycap pegs, but can support much more weight.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OQnbjlbY4uU/UzWOMI0dyrI/AAAAAAAAHTE/EWTK8GQo2j8/s1600/IMG_3220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OQnbjlbY4uU/UzWOMI0dyrI/AAAAAAAAHTE/EWTK8GQo2j8/s1600/IMG_3220.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a><br /><br />Seeing as the Asshimar is mainly a top-heavy kit, this choice of tightening the knee parts proved very beneficial, it made the kit more stable and gave me more freedom to do challenging poses like balancing, or just getting a more dynamic looking standing pose.<br /><br />Anyway that's all for now, there's way more work to be done on this thing but at least the issues affecting playability have been resolved. I seriously can't wait until I paint this thing.<br /><br /><br /></div>
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-37526573478261158872014-03-27T21:40:00.001+08:002014-03-27T21:43:36.623+08:00Flying bagels! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RsJpYOH-Lmw/UzQnsDMqaiI/AAAAAAAAHR0/fzlu9M5ohT0/s1600/IMG_3206.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RsJpYOH-Lmw/UzQnsDMqaiI/AAAAAAAAHR0/fzlu9M5ohT0/s1600/IMG_3206.JPG" height="400" width="265" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Managed to get a second-hand Asshimar kit today from a friend, it was a little bit aged and had some loose fit in a few parts so I worked on it a bit. </div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fJ_eXHtqeN0/UzQnmUBsx_I/AAAAAAAAHRo/D-8YLy7WayI/s1600/IMG_3200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fJ_eXHtqeN0/UzQnmUBsx_I/AAAAAAAAHRo/D-8YLy7WayI/s1600/IMG_3200.JPG" height="264" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
so the first issue I wanted to deal with was the plastic on plastic friction keeping the hands in the wrist. So I opted to install some polycaps into the joint, first by hollowing out the inside of the wrist and making plaplate bracers to keep it in place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g870WtJ9vnE/UzQnigquapI/AAAAAAAAHRg/8ONhbcIJ0go/s1600/IMG_3201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g870WtJ9vnE/UzQnigquapI/AAAAAAAAHRg/8ONhbcIJ0go/s1600/IMG_3201.JPG" height="229" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
copious amounts of plastic cement and sanding would hopefully secure it in place for frequent popping in and out of the hand parts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1bAXZe9v4Xw/UzQnhPL2sRI/AAAAAAAAHRY/JEbS9pnEt94/s1600/IMG_3202.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1bAXZe9v4Xw/UzQnhPL2sRI/AAAAAAAAHRY/JEbS9pnEt94/s1600/IMG_3202.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
All done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gEF70c7jc8g/UzQnn0J75JI/AAAAAAAAHRw/nCkwbGQk0qA/s1600/IMG_3205.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gEF70c7jc8g/UzQnn0J75JI/AAAAAAAAHRw/nCkwbGQk0qA/s1600/IMG_3205.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next would be the monoeye. I couldn't figure out a way to make it moveable so I just settled for a static one, but at least it's still a clear piece.<br />
<br />
I'm still working out the kit for myself since I got it built but so far, the loose joint issues have been addressed, parts modified (I replaced one antenna with metal paperclip wire) and now it's just a matter of sanding down nubs and seamlines, then figuring out the camo pattern I'll apply.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-116462738435394162014-03-25T17:40:00.002+08:002014-03-25T17:40:23.933+08:00A very busy month. I forgot this thing existed again, lol. Seems I've left this place quiet for over a month. I have been busy though, I went back to making gunpla this past month and finished/started/stalled on some projects. I still need to do a full gallery for each but here's the list of things so far:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-091cCG2tZ6A/UzFKayVPaEI/AAAAAAAAHQU/ZKgqiYGS3jo/s1600/IMG_3167.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-091cCG2tZ6A/UzFKayVPaEI/AAAAAAAAHQU/ZKgqiYGS3jo/s1600/IMG_3167.JPG" height="400" width="285" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
that one above is the 95% completed <a href="http://micromatsing.blogspot.com/2014/02/stuff-on-side.html">kit I did last month. </a>I say 95% because it's still lacking a beam sniper rifle (which I hope I'll be able to grab on Thursday.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://micromatsing.blogspot.com/2014/02/stuff-on-side.html"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://micromatsing.blogspot.com/2014/02/stuff-on-side.html"><br /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://micromatsing.blogspot.com/2014/02/stuff-on-side.html"><br /></a></div>
The next three are part of my Operation V set of builds, which includes the original three RX units in alternate color schemes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NbQJc4ckthw/UzFKZBoCX2I/AAAAAAAAHQM/RPoaxt-bkCg/s1600/IMG_3168.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NbQJc4ckthw/UzFKZBoCX2I/AAAAAAAAHQM/RPoaxt-bkCg/s1600/IMG_3168.JPG" height="400" width="290" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Guntank itself is complete. I've been meaning to take more pictures of it, but I'm waiting until I complete the team. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bsr7Gr319uI/UzFKW-naH9I/AAAAAAAAHQE/Vgl0Y5q57Lk/s1600/IMG_3169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bsr7Gr319uI/UzFKW-naH9I/AAAAAAAAHQE/Vgl0Y5q57Lk/s1600/IMG_3169.JPG" height="400" width="272" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Guncannon is in the process of being finished. I modified the head quite a bit and added new hands, but other than that, nothing else, really. just a bit more polish, then it's off to painting. I'm probably going to paint this in earth colors or at least a less red-dominant color scheme. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-376jkl3yLBg/UzFLhmGHwSI/AAAAAAAAHQs/vpQ4ZB3oS80/s1600/IMG_3178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-376jkl3yLBg/UzFLhmGHwSI/AAAAAAAAHQs/vpQ4ZB3oS80/s1600/IMG_3178.JPG" height="320" width="250" /></a><br /><br />The Roll-out colors gundam has been complete for a while now, but I added a bit of mild weathering to it, as I'll be doing on all three Operation V builds. I really enjoy doing that part of modeling nowadays.<br /><br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yh3eTVBy2FU/UzFN6ePemjI/AAAAAAAAHQ4/2Irac3_MICQ/s1600/IMG_3170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yh3eTVBy2FU/UzFN6ePemjI/AAAAAAAAHQ4/2Irac3_MICQ/s1600/IMG_3170.JPG" height="320" width="212" /></a><br /><br />Then there's this Jack bayard GM (Jack the Halloween) I've been working on since Sunday, very happy with how the scratchbuilt hyper bazooka mount turned out. almost done, just needs to be decaled then lightly weathered.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vqjtMQwnyZM/UzFN99cN0_I/AAAAAAAAHRA/HhcAri2dAs4/s1600/IMG_3177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vqjtMQwnyZM/UzFN99cN0_I/AAAAAAAAHRA/HhcAri2dAs4/s1600/IMG_3177.JPG" height="320" width="235" /></a><br /><br />And here's a Zaku II I worked on for a group build, (along with the sniper gundam above) went with darker greens for it, and did a few mods as well, mostly on the head and the waist area.<br /><br /><br />That's the stuff being worked on for now, there are a lot more here undocumented, but this about does it for a monthly blog entry. I hope I have more to write about in the coming weeks though. </div>

This build is being done for <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/224026507803292/?fref=ts">a very lighthearted group build</a> a few friends of mine thought up, and currently we're accepting a few more participants (up to 20). Anyway I used this as an occasion to continue with an idea I had last year about turning a GM into a gundam-type suit. I simplified the concept this time around, limiting myself only to a new head and some skirt parts, making this unit still switchable into it's old GM Sniper II configuration. I just opted to do a few more mods both for ease of painting, adding articulation and slightly tweaking the look of the unit.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qGqxnQQ_wnc/UwzCRCI5sRI/AAAAAAAAHMo/P_Hj0qBPVUk/s1600/IMG_2770.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qGqxnQQ_wnc/UwzCRCI5sRI/AAAAAAAAHMo/P_Hj0qBPVUk/s1600/IMG_2770.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a><br /><br />Aside from the alternate Gundam head, it also has about 3mm extensions to the forearms, something inspired by the slim look of the GMs in the Light novel <a href="http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam:_The_Blazing_Shadow">Blazing Shadow</a>. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UHsYEHqI0sU/UwzCROI0PrI/AAAAAAAAHMs/yJjHoLW5cIQ/s1600/IMG_2853-vert.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UHsYEHqI0sU/UwzCROI0PrI/AAAAAAAAHMs/yJjHoLW5cIQ/s1600/IMG_2853-vert.jpg" height="400" width="294" /></a><br /><br />Here's some additional articulation added to the ankles, which I adapted from a White Dingo build I saw in an issue of Hobby Japan </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I haven't even done a decent set for my other finished planes. Just not feeling up for documentation for some reason. </div>

Been busy for the past few weeks, and I probably have a few finished stuff begging for some photo galleries (The Slug Flyer and Eri being the most recent), but for today though I got a very special package. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPvYGTFU9uc/Uv9S1IqgdzI/AAAAAAAAHJ8/PBF51Swupjw/s1600/IMG_2694.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-kPvYGTFU9uc/Uv9S1IqgdzI/AAAAAAAAHJ8/PBF51Swupjw/s1600/IMG_2694.JPG" height="265" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They arrived!<br /><br />And they blew a massive hole in my wallet. But I can definitely say Pit-Road kits are so worth the extra bucks I shelled out.<br /><br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />Holy shit, these kits are probably the best planes I've built in this scale. so easy to put together, the fit is near-perfect, and seems built for snap-building with sturdy construction and well-thought out options (they come with pilots and an optional flight stand!)<br /><br />Of course, being on my Area 88 binge, I naturally started with the Saab Draken. But for this build I'm going for the Austrian Draken to familiarize me with the issues I'll deal with when I start Shin's Draken. (on a side note: I'm building a second version of the Tiger II using a Revell model, which is awesome and more fun to build than the Dragon Tiger II but let's leave that for another post.)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dBto2Heb-GI/Uv9SpWUlp9I/AAAAAAAAHJc/rkpKxNJ16Jw/s1600/IMG_2696.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dBto2Heb-GI/Uv9SpWUlp9I/AAAAAAAAHJc/rkpKxNJ16Jw/s1600/IMG_2696.JPG" height="320" width="277" /></a><br /><br />I started by adding detail to the cockpit, loosely basing it on reference pictures and bigger scaled Draken models made by other builders. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SYn9eplt_Ro/Uv9SyM5NMqI/AAAAAAAAHJk/iJQ-HwsGpfw/s1600/IMG_2698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SYn9eplt_Ro/Uv9SyM5NMqI/AAAAAAAAHJk/iJQ-HwsGpfw/s1600/IMG_2698.JPG" height="320" width="249" /></a><br /><br />Here's the tub painted up in basic green and grey for the panels.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VRx8cuzT_g/Uv9SyWHo_NI/AAAAAAAAHJs/mU6VlmVLDUw/s1600/IMG_2699.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3VRx8cuzT_g/Uv9SyWHo_NI/AAAAAAAAHJs/mU6VlmVLDUw/s1600/IMG_2699.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a><br /><br />And here's the tub installed in the fuselage. Hardly any gaps to fix in the 2 fuselage halves, I wish more kits were like this. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ADoEiJAifKk/Uv9Sy_BVtuI/AAAAAAAAHJw/tG3HYuDT6Vo/s1600/IMG_2700.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ADoEiJAifKk/Uv9Sy_BVtuI/AAAAAAAAHJw/tG3HYuDT6Vo/s1600/IMG_2700.JPG" height="225" width="400" /></a><br /><br />Here's the pilot... which is blocking the details that I added to the cockpit tub... and I'm kicking myself in the nuts right now for suddenly realizing this. ARGH.<br /><br /><br /><br />oh well, live and learn. </div>

Just finished painting the slug flyer,<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />

pretty fun little kit. I also added the exhaust nozzles to the sides, so I won't be bothered by the question: "how the hell does this jet even fly?"<br /><br /><br />Now then, I'm still debating whether I should add decals to the Slug Flyer. At least a unit number and some caution markings. Anyway, I'll post up a gallery of both the jet and the figure once I finish Fio and the Camel Slug.<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-42284463170751574772014-02-04T00:16:00.000+08:002014-02-04T00:16:07.169+08:00PROJECT SLUG PART 2: It Stalls<br />

Nothing really new here. finished Eri (somewhat) and started work on the flyer. I wasn't feeling too motivated tonight so I just went and primed the main body. It also occured to me that the slug flyer lacks any detail on the sides of the fuselage where the lift nozzles would be on a real harrier. Weird because even a hasegawa eggplane harrier has those. Not quite sure if I want to add those on using spare parts, but if it bothers me enough I definitely will.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-18308365133699748942014-02-03T00:09:00.001+08:002014-02-03T00:09:25.457+08:00PROJECT SLUG PART 1: It Begins<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Work needs to be done tonight! I'm running out of primer so I decided to start the process early lest I deplete my stuff on other kits/projects.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
So in the above picture I've started work by priming Eri's parts. After having all the parts done in gray, I started to appreciate the detail of the sculpt, it really looks like the proper amount of "cartoony" while still being sharp, so I kinda want to do a really good job on this.<br />
<br />
anyway, after the primer coat set, I airbrushed her in desert yellow in preparation for the hand painting process:<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DwiH0lKhtz8/Uu5otbhpHhI/AAAAAAAAHIk/CYNyVQy1auM/s1600/IMG_2574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-DwiH0lKhtz8/Uu5otbhpHhI/AAAAAAAAHIk/CYNyVQy1auM/s1600/IMG_2574.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
See I have this idea that the colors I want to paint her in will show in fewer coats if I use a brighter, but flat undercoat.<br />
<br />
<br />
While that was drying I went ahead and detailed the cockpit tub of the slug flyer:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cyKHGO2nLqE/Uu5otQ9YbEI/AAAAAAAAHIg/ZifjT_qkaEM/s1600/IMG_2576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cyKHGO2nLqE/Uu5otQ9YbEI/AAAAAAAAHIg/ZifjT_qkaEM/s1600/IMG_2576.JPG" height="256" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

There might still be a way to do that but I'll lleave that for later.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J3yTiqt_4Z0/Uu5oPW3sS7I/AAAAAAAAHIM/Mxs7gXX0jPI/s1600/IMG_2582.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J3yTiqt_4Z0/Uu5oPW3sS7I/AAAAAAAAHIM/Mxs7gXX0jPI/s1600/IMG_2582.JPG" height="256" width="400" /></a><br /><br />Anyway my hunch paid off, it seems. the colors are coming along quite nicely, though I didn't complete everything right-away. I'm a tad rusty at painting figures and would like to take time to retrace my steps.<br /><br />just painting the eyes again after a year of not doing that on any figure was challenging. But I'm still glad it turned out decent. More updates as the week progresses!<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uU_94dRsLHg/Uu0gtHAM_nI/AAAAAAAAHHQ/3Sxiilo5EeM/s1600/IMG_2562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uU_94dRsLHg/Uu0gtHAM_nI/AAAAAAAAHHQ/3Sxiilo5EeM/s1600/IMG_2562.JPG" height="272" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, one of the essential parts to pay attention to when working on something like the metal slug gashapon set is the figures. You can paint up the vehicles all nice and all but the figures also need that sort of attention.<br />
<br />
That being said, it's pretty hard to paint them up right when they're one solid piece of PVC (or rather several parts firmly held together by glue).<br />
<br />
If I wanted to paint the figures entirely, meaning ALL the little crevices and gaps, I can't accomplish that by just painting them as-is, or rather you can but it'll be way to difficult and nerve-wracking for your hands.<br />
<br />
What could you do?<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ql_c36PqdfY/Uu0gxkYaZ9I/AAAAAAAAHHg/ZxoWjLzSJ0g/s1600/IMG_2563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ql_c36PqdfY/Uu0gxkYaZ9I/AAAAAAAAHHg/ZxoWjLzSJ0g/s1600/IMG_2563.JPG" height="276" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
well, you cut the figure up, for starters.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xWPUhEjXQK4/Uu0gx94Sd8I/AAAAAAAAHHo/P4_G8qiVi3g/s1600/IMG_2564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xWPUhEjXQK4/Uu0gx94Sd8I/AAAAAAAAHHo/P4_G8qiVi3g/s1600/IMG_2564.JPG" height="400" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
Sectioning off parts of the figure makes it easier to paint. in this case I've separated the figure into pieces that would allow me to get color on those hard to reach places. And to make sure they go back together in one piece, I've added mounting pins and holes to the parts, kind of how one would do it on a resin kit.<br />
<br />
I accomplished this using 2mm and 1mm plastic beams as the pins, the 2mm ones to join the head to the body and the body to the waist, and 1mm to join the arms to the body.<br />

What's good about this method is that aside from making painting the figure completely a breeze, it also allows you to do some slight positioning of parts, because the pegs effectively act as articulation points. I'm very partial right now to gluing the arms in place while leaving the waist and neck pins un-glued to allow a bit of movement to those areas. Of course what's important about this aspect is to choose only parts that would normally not break the sculpt even when repositioned. In this case what can work is just the waist and neck.<br />
<br />
I'm glad this worked for Eri, and I think I'll do the same to Fio before I prep them both for painting (oh joy!)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14159869830469315778noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3375802636337494351.post-85691830261339091992014-02-01T23:29:00.000+08:002014-02-01T23:33:58.686+08:00Saturday! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today was quite a day, played cardgames, hung out with friends and bought some stuff I've been pining to get, the Metal Slug Gashapon Kits from TakaraTomy A.R.T.S. (formerly Yujin).<br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="text-align: center;"><br /><br /><br /> I'm amazed at how detailed these things are, though the camel isn't the best example, the Slug Flyer (which was based on the Harrier) is.</span><br />
<br style="text-align: center;" />
<span style="text-align: center;">Also they came with minifigures of Fio and Eri, which I'll definitely enjoy painting up. Anyway, the reason Marco and Tarma aren't included is because I got the set in a group buy and just decided I want the girls more. I'll probably hunt down the guys and the slugs later on when I do tank scale models, right now the slug flyer is perfect for that jet binge I've been on, lately.<br /><br /><br />Which has yet to really die down. I forced myself to finish the Area 88 project F-5E (Shin Kazama) these past few nights, and it resulted in two cracked canopies (godammnit Dragon) Shin's Tiger is on semicomplete status for now as I have opted to tint the canopy to hide the crack, which is sad because nobody will get to see the detailing of the cockpit and the pilot. This only means that I need to perfect heat-forming a new canopy within the year if I'll ever get a good night's sleep about this thing.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bLuU0surYhY/Uu0N_gHsswI/AAAAAAAAHHA/DUnbpAAFJFU/s1600/IMG_2556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bLuU0surYhY/Uu0N_gHsswI/AAAAAAAAHHA/DUnbpAAFJFU/s1600/IMG_2556.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
oh. well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Anyway I've moved on to another aspect of the build which is the diorama base for Shin's jet, and I've fudged about making the EPU tractor, with the added bonus of a driver figure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I also noticed the steering wheel is inaccurate and have since rectified that after taking the pic.<br />
<br />
I've also sculpted pants on the guy now, but I'll leave that for later.<br />
<br />
<br />
Anyway that's it for now, seriously thinking of moving all thorough documentation of anything I build into the blog again instead of spamming my facebook account. and to actually force myself to write more.<br />

About a week or so ago I said I messed up the Eurofighter JF-90 I was doing, so I decided to bust out its counterpart, the Rafale M which went together a bit smoother (although I broke the refueling tube about three frickin' times). Anyway, I finished the Rafale today, and took just one photo of it for documentation. I'll do the full gallery some other time.<br />

<br />
Meanwhile here's a clearer pic of the F-16, that was also finished recently. I do have some gallery pics, but I'm thinking of adding a few more before I post up the full gallery ( I want to put it next to the previous falcons I did as well)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RylJ_7S0-Q0/UudZCY4ZrVI/AAAAAAAAHFw/mALM-8D4I9M/s1600/IMG_2485.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RylJ_7S0-Q0/UudZCY4ZrVI/AAAAAAAAHFw/mALM-8D4I9M/s1600/IMG_2485.JPG" height="464" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Speaking of falcons, here's another one, in Eggplane form. I'm just spending time building the pilot figure from scratch as I thought the stock pilot was too plain (heh puns). I tried following the box art illustrations while making her, and while not perfectly accurate it's alright for now.<br />
<br />

<br />
Today, after much stressing and trials on two previous kits, I was able to complete this 1/144 F-16C (Trumpeter), in the proper colors and armed with the right missiles. I thought I was doing pretty good for the day so I decided to move on from this project into a new kit (the old Revell Eurofighter JF-90)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

<br />
Which promptly ended with me cracking the stock canopy. I had to heat-form a new one out of clear plastic sheet but the results are a bit off in terms of measurement. I'll have to see about fitting the new canopy to the fuselage but I'm not averse to buying a replacement kit just for the canopy.<br />
<br />
ah well, what a night.<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
some of you might remember the other Daryl's Sprays reviews I did with their earlier line of metallic/glossy paints. Suffice to say they have since branched out into more paint colors, thinners, topcoats, mostly for lacquer acrylic users and airbrush buffs. Many other products are on the way and I can definitely say they'll be developing more mainstream-ish model paint colors as time goes by, and even experimenting with products that have to do with kit preparation rather than painting.<br />
<br />
One of their latest offerings spells something hopeful for fans of water-based acrylics like Vallejo, Tamiya, Mr. Hobby, Citadel and others. <br />
<br />
Today, we look at DS Aqua Thinner.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jj2QDECwY68/Ut5UwqM8f7I/AAAAAAAAHDk/XMmay4t0qGY/s1600/IMG_2361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jj2QDECwY68/Ut5UwqM8f7I/AAAAAAAAHDk/XMmay4t0qGY/s1600/IMG_2361.JPG" height="245" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So let's say for some reason you wanted to paint a space marine miniature in purple using an airbrush (you cheater-- said every mini figure painter ever), and you normally prefer to use acrylics designed for these little minis because they offer a lot of colors, quite sturdy and are sufficiently handling-resistant when dry. Problem is your hobby store isn't carrying the proper thinner. You dread using alcohol or tap water because these can affect how good the paint will come out.<br />
<br />
and then someone throws you a bottle of DS Aqua thinner from a tiny little cloud hanging out of your window.<br />
<br />
well thanks to a Deus Ex Machina, you can get to painting!<br />
<br />
Okay, I'm using my normal setup which is a sprayworks basic trigger feed gravity airbrush hooked up to a Yehong AC-108 portable air compressor. since this is a continuous air-flow setup, around 20PSI is more than enough to get painting.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSSpFfA4bA4/Ut5UwR5ZFDI/AAAAAAAAHDc/92_pLDcC-1s/s1600/IMG_2362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WSSpFfA4bA4/Ut5UwR5ZFDI/AAAAAAAAHDc/92_pLDcC-1s/s1600/IMG_2362.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
First I pour the aqua thinner into the feed cup, trailing the thinner from the bottle to the cup using a thin stick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jwu7ZpLVcuI/Ut5Uwu4HFtI/AAAAAAAAHDg/vOHV4jB-QXA/s1600/IMG_2363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jwu7ZpLVcuI/Ut5Uwu4HFtI/AAAAAAAAHDg/vOHV4jB-QXA/s1600/IMG_2363.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I add the Acrylic paint (Vallejo Game Color in this case) and turn on the compressor to mix it with the thinner using the backwash technique. But you can get a better mix if you use an old flat brush to mix the paint and thinner in the cup. It's important to note that for the AB, the ratio of paint to thinner is 2:4 more or less. You really want the consistency to be slightly milky. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MOilfCirICU/Ut5UyOcb4UI/AAAAAAAAHDs/-iu7Z8PpP-Q/s1600/IMG_2365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MOilfCirICU/Ut5UyOcb4UI/AAAAAAAAHDs/-iu7Z8PpP-Q/s1600/IMG_2365.JPG" height="400" width="287" /></a></div>
<br />
I chose to go with an unprimed "spess marehn" because I have no regard for foresight (but I at least cleaned up the mold lines beforehand), and misted the initial coat of heavy violet on the mini) and let it dry.<br />
<br />
The drying time of the actual thinner is pretty fast, and this is quite an advantage for acrylic users, since it becomes dry to the touch in less than three minutes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--hvgHNmTpFs/Ut5UyyplCKI/AAAAAAAAHD0/eprMnD1-n18/s1600/IMG_2367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--hvgHNmTpFs/Ut5UyyplCKI/AAAAAAAAHD0/eprMnD1-n18/s1600/IMG_2367.JPG" height="320" width="226" /></a></div>
<br />
Next I painted the mini again in secondary coats (three for this session), and as usual with DS thinners, the coverage is very very good, less than five coats are needed to get an opaque color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v_T-IpOF27E/Ut5Uz0zlGYI/AAAAAAAAHD8/lHgbTJM5Da8/s1600/IMG_2372.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v_T-IpOF27E/Ut5Uz0zlGYI/AAAAAAAAHD8/lHgbTJM5Da8/s1600/IMG_2372.JPG" height="320" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uPCkjveUbVw/Ut5U0rTFtcI/AAAAAAAAHEQ/9PeguuiOGNs/s1600/IMG_2373.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uPCkjveUbVw/Ut5U0rTFtcI/AAAAAAAAHEQ/9PeguuiOGNs/s1600/IMG_2373.JPG" height="314" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The coating is even and level all around, but there may be some areas that the AB didn't reach.<br />
<br />
What comes next is how we demonstrate Aqua Thinner's dual purpose.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KLy17VBAKeA/Ut5U08JajPI/AAAAAAAAHEI/YkdRJ0lgo0g/s1600/IMG_2374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KLy17VBAKeA/Ut5U08JajPI/AAAAAAAAHEI/YkdRJ0lgo0g/s1600/IMG_2374.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, you can use DS Aqua thinner to hand-paint as well, simply pour paint and thinner into a palette or a cup and mix. for hand-painting what I'd recommend is a paint to thinner ratio that is more 2:3, where there is only slightly more thinner to paint.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GAZtRBCxEAE/Ut5U1F61DdI/AAAAAAAAHEU/cCfoNN8TiOg/s1600/IMG_2376.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GAZtRBCxEAE/Ut5U1F61DdI/AAAAAAAAHEU/cCfoNN8TiOg/s1600/IMG_2376.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
Here, we're hand-painting the hands that are molded onto the Bolter rifle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X10rWrLa0sw/Ut5U22igPCI/AAAAAAAAHEg/1i2EnuCm7Po/s1600/IMG_2378.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X10rWrLa0sw/Ut5U22igPCI/AAAAAAAAHEg/1i2EnuCm7Po/s1600/IMG_2378.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
Of course, as we said it's not just vallejo that DS Aqua works with, it can also work for other brands in the same way. I personally pour a bit of thinner into my citadel pots to revive the paint when it gets clumpy, and I feel it helps the paint flow better when brushed on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qwMJsSyQq9s/Ut5bjBLuyWI/AAAAAAAAHE4/yvakhGRdzII/s1600/IMG_2381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qwMJsSyQq9s/Ut5bjBLuyWI/AAAAAAAAHE4/yvakhGRdzII/s1600/IMG_2381.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
About half an hour later, we're done with our spess marehn, who ended up looking not too shabby, honestly.<br />

DS Aqua is a nice product to add to your set of painting tools/supplies, where its a good alternative for the more expensive thinners out there. the fact that it can be used on many brands of water-based acrylics and dries rather quickly is a plus for painters, just as well it's ability to be useful both as a thinner for Airbrushing and hand painting makes it a very versatile product in terms of hobby painting.<br />

You can buy DS Aqua Thinner (along with other DS Hobby products) at JMN's Hobby Store, located in Harrison Plaza, Malate, Manila, Philippines.<br />
