Merghy Crabmas!

got this beast wars basic Alligator Megatron yesterday from Kris, and spent part of this afternoon repainting it. i did do a mod to the right shoulder so he can hold the cannon G1 style and i like the way it looks in botmode. painted with creos acrylics(interior green, IJA green, RLM blue, Off-white, Midnight blue), P3(cold steel) , Games Workshop( bleached bone, gore red), and Tamiya( german gray), sealed with 2 layers of Bosny gloss and one flat coat.

not my best work but i'm glad to be done with it. will let the paint set for a day or two before i go about with transforming it. if i had a list of all the molds i never want to paint again this would be in the top 3

it's always on

every other week i'm building or painting something. here's my current work in progress, some long overdue mods for classics prime:

what started me off was the backpack mod (really he sports it in any incarnation since the movie) which comes from a helpful tutorial by Sector 70 staffer, hXcPunk23, that you can find here. then it all just came naturally. figured out the smokestacks earlier today using parts of PCC steelshot and some styrene. it works in both modes and uses a pin swivel joint to rotate it around.

100% unicron free

putting this down here so i won't forget but i posted a mod for brakedown yesterday and n ow i feel like planning for a menasor custom. what i thought was this,
  1. the combiner team is made of one voyager core robot, two deluxe arms (to accommodate dragstrip) or maybe have the core robot a deluxe as well (thanks kris) and scouts as the feet (to accomodate ROTF brakedown)
  2. most of the combiner kibble should be part of the trailer system so nothing is left hanging. that and the parts need to be integrated not just as cars on ramps but be integrated in the whole robot.
  3.  absolutely NO PRIMUS/ UNICRON  PARTS.

raaaaarh i am now available on ebay for billions!

so 3 regular cars and two mini-cars (thank cheezus mini lambos and other models exist for reals!). yeah that's pretty varied. i won't be surprised if the end result looks ogre/ape-like. i think i'll go for it like that.

just setting down these ground rules to guide me when i finally do this.

ten minute modification

DISCLAIMER: i have no idea if someone came up with this mod already but i'm putting this out to likeminded (Read: obsessive-compulsive) people who also experienced the same nitpick.

now then, i like Brakedown a lot, his adorable mini-lambo mode, his colors, his homagey-ness, but one gripe i've always had was a lack of heels. i fiddled with him a bit and observed something that really, seems like something that should have been done in the figure's production. so here's my tutorial on giving him simple heels.
