here's a commission piece i did, re-making solid snake in the GI Joe scale (again, but this time, better!) inspired by the work of RayH:

keep your hands busy, to stop the trembling

finished this guy the day we also heard news that my Grandmother in Canada passed away... rest in peace, lola mama, we love you. it'll be a while until things are back full swing at home, but i know mom is strong. i wish i was too, strong enough to face the time when it all happens to me, and not just hide away in my little corner like i always do.

anyway,  here's the Peace Sentinel Reinforced Commando

Parts:
  • head- Wild weasel with sculpted details
  • torso/arms- ROC Flash, with the armor parts cut and glued
  • hands- Iron Grenadier
  • legs- Heavily resculpted Major Bludd legs
  • feet- Roadblock
  • pouches and other stuff- Resolute Pilot destro leg harness, MU Punisher pouches on right thigh, Greenshirt duke knife sheath on the back, big torso pouch from Roadblock, 4 chest pouches+protective "chainmail" on the chest piece sides from Comic Storm Shadow

thunder thighs

started work on the peace sentinel commando's thigh armor. God it's frustrating to sculpt it smoothly, still i guess it does show i need patience. there's gonna be a lot of sanding and refining on them before i move on to the lower leg armor.

Build is now 60% complete!

BTW:
legs- major Bludd (re-used from my old Joe Crimson Dynamo custom
feet and neon green pouch- roadblock
white thigh pouches- MU punisher
black webgear- pilot destro
new hands- Iron Grenadier

the heavy infantry

well here's the latest thing to be cut and glued on my table. i'm making--sort of--one of the most badass-looking enemies in the MGS: PW game, the Reinforced Peace Sentinel soldiers:

have to admit the hardest part i found was emulating their iconic headgear, at first i considered the para-viper helmet which would have allowed me to give these guys a face underneath, but i opted out because i kinda liked the looks of the Wild Weasel head, i mean he's practically 50% of the PS soldier's head. i just added some details to add to the similarity:

not really sure if i want to add the earphones though.

the upper body felt easier, really. just ROC Sgt.Flash with some bits removed, replaced and added.

the legs will be a real challenge, in fact i'm still stumped on how i should start. but at least it's getting there.

more soon-ish

Survivor of Shadow Moses

Solid Snake came out a little rougher than Big boss, though the build was much more involved. aside from the resculpted Airborne head with twistie Bandanna (i needed to find one that resembled cloth to a degree for the trademark waviness) the shoulder pads and pectorals were sculpted over the ROC Snake Eyes torso.

the choice of feet took a while as i didn't want him to look like a midget alongside Big Boss but i guess that's what happens with using the Sgt. Stone body for Big Boss, ends up taller than most joes.

if given the materials i'd like to do a second, lighter colored (more game-accurate) version, and an MGS2 version, but this one will  do for now. he looks snake-y enough anyway.

now for some action shots:

recipe:

head- resculpted Airborne head with flexi-bandanna
torso/upper arms- ROC snake eyes
forearms- 25th comic snake-eyes with sculpted elbow pads
upper legs/kneecaps- Air-viper (?) * the one that came with outback
lower legs- comic pack Firefly
feet- comic pack Cobra Commander (hooded)
webgear- Airborne

gun- ROC deep six

ineptitude.

comig soon-ish

where it all began

work has started on my Metal Gear Solid: Solid Snake custom:

initial build. a looot of figures went into his assembly, but at his core is the
Uber-Macho ROC snake eyes figure

first coat of primer to let me see how he looks in one color

Building up the shoulders.
it's amazing how well the 25th Anniversary Airborne face lends itself
to Snake here.

and the build so far. 95% done i would say,
still a lot to clean up but i'm satisfied with it.
the next step would be painting. woo-hoo!
