Been working on this guy recently. Very much liking how this side-project is turning out.

It's a Gundam!

6 weeks to get to this stage. Gonna need one more to finish the weapons. The decals ended in disaster so I'm just keeping the markings as they are so far (though there's a slight chance of getting a replacement I'm not counting on it) anyway, the important ones have already been applied (lol)

Daryl's Sprays Test #1: Sinanju Red

So I found a good test subject for the trial runs of the Daryl's Sprays line of airbrush hobby paints.

Hello! Since a friend of mine requested help with this aspect of painting and since I also don't have anywhere to go thanks to the weather, I decided to make this little follow-along on how I paint very tiny 1/144 scaled figures. Our test subject is this 1/144 Sayla Mass from the Bandai Builder Parts series.

Work in Progress: HGUC Ver. Ka

Since I'm almost done applying the main modifications (before primer coating and refining), I figure I'd put up this post for posterity. This is my current gunpla project that I've been working on for around 2 weeks now, which initially started off as a straight kitbash but I needed to tweak a few things as the days went on and I got an MG Ver. ka as a reference point.  So I began minor tweaking with plaplate, putty and some evergreen styrene strips:

Modified the detailing on the GM Type-C shield.

Added some detailing on the G30th rifle.

As for the body itself, here's where I paid a lot of attention to the MG

Well, mostly, some stuff is just left to the best of my ability rather than 100% accuracy.

The thighs and waist got a 3mm extension (which put it off-scale by 5mm, but I had to do something about the proportions anyway), and then the torso got a new scratchbuilt central chest piece and protruding chest vents care of builder parts.

The side skirt got extra details thanks to styrene strips and builder parts (I had to use MS Sight lens parts for Verniers)

And then some detail on the knees with styrene and parts from an HGUC gundam , and MS sight lens parts for the side verniers (again lol)

The head itself is an HGUC gundam head, with the front parts slightly angled, and added in some simple vents with putty.

I also removed the faceplate for ease of painting.

I also included a hand that came from the GM Quel.

It's pretty annoying how it's the wrong friggin' hand but there aren't many saber-grasping left hands out there.

I really should do posts like this more often, for every future project, It might be fun for me to look back on this 2-3 years later and see how much I improved at the preparation stages.

One-Day Projects

This was fun. Decided to see what I could build in a day, so I went and started the Gunpla Starter set Vol.2 I bought over the weekend. Followed the tips in the accompanying guide and this was the result. The diorama is from an old piece I made back in 2009 I think. Anyway, view more of the Gundam here.

Backlogs gonna backlog

I never thought I'd enjoy it so much but the AGE-2 frame is really fun to build. I just completed a snapbuild of the Dark Hound, and I'm looking forward to the AGE-2 normal I'll be getting next week.


Hopefully I'll have 2 entries done by the time GWBC 2013 rolls around. And I'll be working around a theme for the pair. Dark Hound however, well I'm inspired by Hobby no Toriko's take on it, so expect mine to be a crossbone gundam homage.

Meanwhile I also finished the Shaldoll, which needs a photo set done soon, but I'm still thinking about adding decals to it as well. 

Lastly, while i haven't posted a picture, I jerry-rigged the Artimes cannons to work for the AGE-FX, to better complete the F-91 look I was going for at the beginning of the project. Well, i'll post more on that once I actually get the kit back from being displayed @  GKMC2013

White Paint Shenanigans 2

I went and pushed to paint at least 80% of the HG Age-1 but I couldn't really work for long periods due to getting dizzy spells so I cut the session short, leaving only the torso, skirt, and the weapons to be painted for another day.

I think I'm getting the hang of painting whites by using preshading, though I can't really call it shading when I do it. It just turns into a slighly clouded white and not a bright white shade (which I dig anyway)

It seems though with the Sprayworks Basic AB, I've reached my limit early on.

But this is only my second attempt at it though after AGE-1 ALEX, so who knows, right?

Eh, we'll see if by the end of the week I can come up with a decent looking model.

Yare, Yare Daze

Been a while since I last updated on Jotaro. I stopped for a while since one of his most defining features are is his longcoat. And for a while I was stumped until a good friend of mine gave me some foam sheets to experiment with.

These same sheets he had used earlier for his own project, SHF Minami Kotaro

(thanks Poli!) 

Anyhoo I think the coat works for now. like with a lot of stuff it's still a bit rough, and I'll go back to fixing it once everything else is resolved, like the pants, and sleeves as well as the belt... And a little more cleaning on the face.



I also started work on Star platinum, again very rough start.

I intend to have him with two heads, an ORAORAORA face and a more stoic face similar to Jotaro's

Currently this project is proving to be fun, and I'm in no real rush to finish these but I do hope it fares better than the Joe Shimamura custom I've yet to finish.

Okay, so here's what I've been working on this week, and it's sorta long overdue (but in part I'm glad it was).

I'm making Jotaro and Star Platinum in Microman scale using some Kinnikuman bodies as base figures.

It has been pretty okay for the meantime but I just can't get the vibe without his coat. But a friend of mine has suggested using "colored foam sheets" bought from the bookstore. I shall look into it next week but I feel it might need some miniature tailoring skills I don't have (;n;)

Really had fun working on the face, sculpted from scratch. I think I'm slowly getting better at this sort of thing.

Evolution.

Just a comparison between the first kamen rider-like thing I made (waaay back in 2008), and the last two I made, (2013). Glad to see there's SOME improvement.
