TOH!

I haven't bought figuarts in over a year (i think), but I recently bought this Sakurajima Rider 1... I feel like it'll lead me to buying multiples of the Shocker mook then the old Rider 1 suit.

Den-O

And done! Lots more I could have worked on but I'm satisfied with how he turned out. Pretty fun and spontaneous project, anyone who wants to ask anything feel free to hit me up in the comments box!

More on the Kuuga soon.

Ore...Sanjou! Part 2: Motion Revive Momotaros review

Despite my bias to Kuuga, the star of the best selection wave is definitely Momotaros. And I have several reasons why.

But first let me just say that there are a few things that might have made him better.
  1.  Not having his Momotarosword permanently grafted to his hand.
  2. Neutrally posed hands.

Other than that, Wow he's pretty amazing. the hands he does come with are pretty unique. There's a pointing hand with an open palm hand that complements it, A neutral open palm, his Momotarosword hand, and last but not least, his awesome "mug" hand.

All these make for great and fun poses when you try them out. The Mug hand alone does it for me, and goddamn, I wish more figures had hands holding mugs for no for no good reason.

And that's something helped along by his unhindered articulation.

Momotaros here succeeds in being a well sculpted figure with reasonably nice proportions overall and still manage to be amusingly fun to pose! most of what you can put him in looks very natural and thanks to his armored look, the joints don't stick out too badly.

He's just so fun!

Of course good joints and good accessories are only helped along with a great sculpt.
Momo is very detailed and it shows. The design is really very intricate and it translated well in this form, and I can argue that momo is the most detailed figure next to Hibiki in this wave.

The paint applications are flawless. Sure, it's a tad glossy but it's almost if not entirely complete. If there are some parts that were left out it's hardly noticeable.

The height is... well at this point you already know.

Great articulation, with good accessories, and a striking sculpt of a memorable character, Momotaros is  definitely worth looking for and getting.

Best damn figure in the entire wave.

Ore...Sanjou! Motion Revive Den-O Review

Honesty time. Den-O never appealed to me as a show but hot damn, his toys are really something. One that I have yet to get myself is his awesome looking SIC Kiwami Tamashii figure, and another would be his motion revive figures.

Before I had some of his other forms (wing and gun forms) as well as zeronos altair but they never really stuck with me. When I bought my "Best Selection" set in HK and it included this guy, I was much more interested in his partner Momotaros than him and decided, "hell why not, maybe one of my firends might appreciate him better". But once I opened him though I found him very enjoyable.

godammit.

Den-O comes with two pairs of hands and a thumb-out hand as well as his dengasher. The numerous hands make for a very expressive figure, though the inclusion of fists would have been nice.

He has a great range of motion! everywhere except for any lateral motion on his shoulders, something hindered by his shoulder armor. The KT got around this by having the pads on hinges, with the MRS, you don't get that kind of mileage. It limits how much he can swing his sword but for everything else, he's aces!

Man, I REALLY love the kind of silver they use for these figures. It's near chrome. The glossy red is a tad loud though. And like most of the line, no paint flaws.

His details are very well sculpted though the head looks very awkward, especially the eyes. Some customizers fixed this by replacing it with an HDM or similar statue head but I'm too lazy and I don't care enough about him to do that ( I may consider it for kuuga though lol).

Ah, Dengasher. Lovely weapon, and like all MRS weapons expect to not have a really solid grip on it.

It stays on with the aid of both hands though but as mentioned before, you can't actually swing it around in a natural looking way.

Den-O is slightly bigger than kabuto but not by much, since It's still a little shorter than some modern Joes.

Good Paint, nice articulation, good amount of accessories, Den-O here is a very cool toy.

It was pretty unexpected how much I'd like this guy and now I kinda regret giving him away. But at least I know the guy I'm giving it to won't sell it. Good figure, and deserving of the inclusion in this "Best Selection" wave of MRS.

Clock-Up! Motion Revive Kabuto Review

Mah Boi! Let me tell you about walking the path of heaven.

Okay, so I'll start this week of Kamen Rider reviews with Kabuto here. Now I've owned several kabuto-related MRS Riders in the past (Gattack, Punch Hopper, Drake, Dark Kabuto), each one going to someone else's collection, mostly because the rider designs never appealed to me, except for the Hopper Brothers and TheBee--which I don't own.
But having the main rider in-hand I have to say that I like him, though not by much.

He's pretty sparse in the accessories department, but what he does have are essentials. A signature pointing hand, his Kabuto Kunai Gun/Axe, and Kabuto Kunai.  All of which you need to cut from a Soft PVC Sprue

Sculpt-wise this figure is pretty detailed. I like how his entire look is captured well in this mini toy form, with the sharp, glossy paintjob on the non-black parts. There are a few details missing but that's expected from a candytoy, but even for that, the paint apps are a lot.

It's like a happy medium between the gimmicky toys like Module-on Fourze figure/kits and the HDM mini statues.

Something I sorely miss these days.

His articulation is pretty well-done. Even as a 4-year old figure he out-does a lot of what's out there in the 1/18 market *cough*marvel universe*cough*. More modern joints like ankle rockers and wrist ball joints or swivels would bring this toy much closer to being a keeper for me. But what also kills me about this fig is that despite being a nimble little sonovabitch, he's also a tad badly proportioned. Something that affects about 70% of this set.  the longish arms and the widened shoulders do help in achieving flexibility but just standing still, Kabuto looks awkward.

Strange, considering the costume design is not exactly as restrictive as say, Den-O but it's still one of the best 1/18 or close scaled renditions of Tendou out there.

His Kunai Gun/Axe is one solid black piece of plastic.

The gun-mode is very nice, and I wish It had as many paint-apps as the Kunai.

The Kunai isn't too bad as well, fairly detailed and lightly painted up it's a cool looking weapon.

Sadly, the grip on the open hands are horrible, and if you even so much as bat an eye at the weapons they fall off the goddamn hands. Argh.

Height-wise he's slightly smaller than the newer joes, and way shorter than the MUs out there, but he's close to the height of most ROC and 25th Joe figures as well as Star Wars.

Overall Kabuto is a neat, well painted figure. He comes with a compliment of accessories and an extra hand that lets him do his signature pose. He'd benefit from more hands, IMO, as well as slightly shorter arms. If you find him, nab him. Unlike when you have a different kabuto rider in your roster you might feel obligated to buy the others to keep them company (which is hard to do these days), but Kabuto here does well enough as a stand-alone figure, and you don't have to worry about finding him complete due to the scant number of stuff he comes with, If he has 2 hands then you're good to go!

so i just watched Kamen Rider The First again.

and had to make this TV-N subs styled picture, just to show what i bought this week. (and finally finishing my primary targets for this series)

yay Nigo! though honestly the green is a little too metallic, and the white helmet stripe is all wrong when you look at it from the back. but otherwise, i'm beginning to like it more than Ichigo.
